From the Stafford Sheriff’s Office:
A Stafford County woman has been arrested for intentionally hitting a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy with her vehicle during a traffic stop on Garrisonville Road.
On November 29th at 3:43 p.m. a Stafford motor unit observed a reckless driver by speed in a Nissan Altima approaching the area of Garrisonville Road and Eustace Road. He attempted a traffic stop and parked his marked Sheriff’s Office motorcycle in front of the Nissan. As he approached the Nissan on foot, the driver, Kimora Fagbewesa, 18, proceeded to strike the deputy with her car and crash into the motorcycle.
As the deputy was knocked down into another lane of travel, Fagbewesa accelerated eastbound into the rear of a Dodge Ram that was stopped in traffic. She proceeded to back up and pull forward, accelerating over the median into the westbound lanes. Once Fagbewesa cleared the intersection, she returned to the eastbound lanes until she reached the area of the 610 Car Wash. Fagbewesa and a juvenile passenger abandoned the crashed car near the car wash and fled into the woods toward Highpointe Boulevard.
The deputy was transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries. Numerous deputies responded to the area and established a perimeter around the scene. The Drone and K-9 Teams were deployed and the juvenile passenger was located and detained. Fagbewesa was able to escape the perimeter and avoided capture.
Deputy J.C. Curtis obtained warrants on Fagbewesa for attempted capital murder, 2 counts of felony hit and run, felony eluding, reckless driving and no valid driver’s license. Detectives worked diligently through the evening to track the suspect to Maryland. Fagbewesa was arrested this afternoon in Baltimore, Maryland. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the United States Marshals Service for their assistance in apprehending Fagbewesa. Stafford detectives also made the trip to Maryland to assist in the successful operation. This is an ongoing case and additional charges are possible.
The deputy has been released from the hospital.
