DUI charges for Spotsy man who hit deputy’s car

From the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office:

On March 21, 2022 at approximately 10:00 p.m. an on duty Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Deputy was struck while sitting stationary at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Leavells Road waiting for the traffic control device to turn green.  The Deputy was in the West bound lanes of Courthouse Road when his vehicle was struck from behind at a high rate of speed by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

Responding Deputies conducted an investigation and found the driver to be impaired.  Berganza Salazar, thirty-seven-year old male from Spotsylvania was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (2nd in 5 years), Driving Revoked (DUI related), and Reckless Driving (Fail to Maintain Control).  Mr. Salazar was taken before the Magistrate and incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.  The Deputy was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
