Stafford County has announced the appointment of a new Deputy County Administrator. Michael Morris will move into the spot left by Deputy County Administrator Mike Smith, who is retiring after more than 36 years of service to Stafford County. Morris has served as Director of Stafford’s Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities (PRCF) since 2016 and has more than 25 years of experience in local government.
“We are very pleased with the appointment of Michael Morris as Deputy County Administrator. He has done an excellent job in his role as the Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, and his transition to Deputy County Administrator should ensure continuity of the office,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Crystal Vanuch – Rock Hill District.
Michael Morris came to Stafford County from the City of Annapolis, MD, where he was Director of Recreation and Parks. Morris has a Master of Science in Education in Sports Management from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Messiah College. He is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional from the National Recreation and Park Association. Morris is a Weldon Cooper Executive Institute graduate and is working towards receiving his Doctorate in Public Administration from Old Dominion University.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the Deputy County Administrator. Stafford is a vibrant community with much to offer its residents. I look forward to working with County staff and the Stafford Board of Supervisors to respond to the needs of our community,” said Morris.
Morris’ first day as Deputy County Administrator will be January 31, 2022. Current PRCF Assistant Director Brion Southall will serve as Interim PRCF Director.
