From the City of Fredericksburg:
Road crews are continuing to work on tree removal to get to areas to plow and treat city streets. We appreciate everyone’s patience as
we continue to cleanup from this major snow storm. Streets on main and secondary roads are generally passable with many side streets still in need of clearing. We have 5 plow teams working throughout the city currently. We have called in outside contractors to work on trees
and assist in snow removal. Tree crews are working in subdivisions of Twin Lake, Altoona, Normandy Village and Fall Hill Avenue. Currently tree crews are working downtown to remove trees and limbs from the areas along the business and government corridors. Our crews have
been working on the 100’s of reported downed trees and large limbs.
We are still asking drivers to refrain from traveling on roads unless essential, to continue to keep our roadways clear for urgent needs and safety personnel. Our public safety teams have placed barricades in areas where trees or power lines are down. Please do not remove those,
they are there to let others know there is an issue on that street or sidewalk.
We have opened a virtual Emergency Operations Center that will be maintained 24/7 by staff and declared a State of Local Emergency to apply for state assistance. Damage assessments teams will begin tomorrow examining buildings, structures, trees and vehicles.
An emergency overnight warming center has just opened at James Monroe High School located at 2300 Washington Avenue. Residents will need to wear masks, bring their own bedding and food, change of clothing and medications. No pets are allowed. This center will close at 8pm
tomorrow. If you need assistance related to other shelter, please contact the Red Cross directly at (855) 891-7325 for assistance.
Dominion Energy is continuing to work to restore power to the 2,969 city addresses are without power. This is down from the near 4,000 customers out yesterday. Please be cautious about using fuel fired space heaters, candles and burners on gas stoves to provide warmth. These can cause dangerous conditions in homes and lead to unwanted fire and/or carbon monoxide poisoning. Be extremely cautious with space heaters. If your power is out and you have no other heat source, allowing water to drip slightly from your faucets may help with preventing
freezing pipes.
Please see Dominion Energy outages at https://www.dominionenergy.com/virginia/reportoutage-or-emergency, or call 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357) or use their mobile app. Customers should call 866-DOM-HELP to report downed lines to a customer service agent if
they do not see their neighborhood on the outage map.
Please continue to check on your elderly neighbors! Call 911 if there is a true emergency. The Police do not know when the power will be restored or when certain roadways will be clearedso please do not call them for information purposes. We appreciate everyone’s continued
patience with employees and outside contractors who have been working around the clock tobring our city back to full function.
