From the Stafford Sheriff’s Office:
A Stafford man was arrested Sunday after assaulting a roommate and her child during a disturbance in a North Stafford community.
On December 19th deputies responded to a residence in Crystal Lake Mobile Home Park for a disturbance. The investigation revealed there was an argument over where garbage had been placed in the home. During the disturbance, an adult female victim and her juvenile child were assaulted by a male that lives in the home, but is not related to them. The female was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. The juvenile had been struck in the face, but did not require treatment.
Deputies learned the suspect was still in the home, which had several makeshift bedrooms to separate occupants. The occupants were called out of the home and numerous people began to exit. Residents advised the suspect was still inside the home, but he refused to exit. After numerous attempts to have him come out on his own, deputies began a methodical search.
The trio of Sgt. J.T. Forman, Sgt. J.A. Mangan III and Deputy B.E. Vaughn, well versed in the game of hide and seek, located the suspect hiding under a bed. The suspect was initially uncooperative, but was taken into custody and identified as Jose Gutierrez-Amaya, 24.
Deputy E.E. West transported Gutierrez-Amaya to the magistrate and obtained warrants for two counts of assault and battery, obstruction of justice and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was held on a secure bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The Fire Marshal’s Office was called to inspect the living conditions in the residence and will coordinate an investigation with the Zoning and Planning Department. The Fire Marshal observed there were no working smoke detectors in the home and provided three detectors to the remaining occupants.
