At 10:37 pm on Thursday, December 16, 2021, crews were alerted to a residential structure fire in the 10700 block of Gordon Road. Upon arrival, crews were confronted with a large volume of fire coming from the rear and roof of the home. Within six minutes of arrival of the first apparatus, two elderly occupants of the home had been located, removed and transferred to medical personnel to begin treatment.

Both were conscious and transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. They were later transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for more definitive care. The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
