Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time School Counselor for an immediate opening. The School Counselor reports to the school’s three Division Heads and is responsible for providing short-term counseling services to students and to develop proactive programming for various grade levels at the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Initiates and coordinate school-wide services and activities
· Provides short-term counseling services to students as needed
· Provide outside referral to families in need of long-term support
· Assist teachers in developing classroom group counseling/discussion groups to assist in social skill and self-esteem development
· Provides crisis intervention assistance to students in need
· Provide behavioral suggestions to teachers and parents that are developmentally appropriate
· Advocates for all students and fosters an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community
· Maintains knowledge about local and state service agencies
Requirements/Qualifications
· Master’s degree in counseling
· 1-3 years’ experience working with adolescents in school setting
· Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and parents
· Proficient in organizing work, maintaining records, managing time, attention to detail, follow through, and setting priorities
· Clear and effective oral and written communication skills
· A positive and welcoming attitude, flexibility, and a sense of humor
Position Type: Faculty/Staff
Contract: 10-month, full time, salary commensurate with experience
