From the Stafford Sheriff’s Office:

A Stafford woman was arrested over the weekend after driving under the influence with a young child in the car.
On November 27th at 9:12 p.m. Deputy F.C. O’Neill responded to the 100 block of Cambridge Street for an intoxicated driver. The driver had called the Sheriff’s Office to report she was driving around without any registration.
Deputy O’Neill located the vehicle at 175 Cambridge Street and identified the driver as Melissa Wright, 32, of Stafford. Wright had glassy, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. The deputy also observed a young child in a car seat in the vehicle.
Field sobriety tests were offered and Wright was arrested. The young child was turned over to the father. Wright attempted to pull away from deputies as she was placed in the rear of the patrol car. She also repeatedly kicked the window once she was secured in the backseat.
Wright was charged with DUI second offense in five years, obstruction of justice and child neglect. She was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Do not put your life or the lives of others at risk by driving under the influence. Have a designated driver or call for a sober ride.
