Exit 148 (Quantico)
Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure between interchanges for Improve95 project construction.
Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3)
Tuesday – Wednesday, Single lane closure at 7 p.m. At 9 p.m., I-95 southbound will be reduced to one lane until 7 a.m. Wednesday to allow crews to mill, pave and uncover overhead signs to open the second southbound structure over the Rappahannock River. When all I-95 southbound lanes reopen at 2 p.m.Wednesday, traffic will be divided between local and through lanes over Route 17 and the Rappahannock River. Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Double lane closures between the interchanges to complete various construction activities after opening the southbound structure to traffic. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. Single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Stafford County
Route 1 Northbound and Southbound
Tuesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile single lane closure on Route 1 between Coals Landing Road and Garrisonville Road for milling and paving. Drivers may experience a temporary rough travel surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Expect brief delays near the mobile work zone.

Stefaniga Road
Tuesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Alternating, one-way traffic on Stefaniga Road between the bridge over Potomac Run and Keswick Road to remove trees in the area. A flagging crew will direct drivers in the work zone.
Old Courthouse Road
Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Alternating, single lane closures on Old Courthouse Road between Route 1 and Courthouse Road for Improve 95 construction.
Stafford County and City of Fredericksburg
Chatham Bridge Opening Sunday, Oct. 10
The Chatham Bridge will reopen to traffic early Sunday, Oct. 10. Crews will remove posted detour signs. All construction work will be complete by April 2022.
City of Fredericksburg
Route 3
Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Milling, paving, and median construction. Crews will be milling and paving Route 3 eastbound and the center shared turn lane between Gateway Boulevard and approximately one-tenth of a mile east of Altoona Drive. A new median will be installed from Altoona Drive to one-tenth of a mile east of Altoona Drive. Be alert for mobile overnight lane closures on Route 3 eastbound and in the center shared turn lane. Work is anticipated to be underway on Sunday-Thursday evenings over the next two weeks, weather permitting. When median construction is underway near Altoona Drive, the Route 3 westbound left turn lane to Altoona Drive will be closed overnight. Travelers can expect rough pavement on a temporary basis in milled areas while work is underway.
Essex County and Richmond County
Route 360 at Downing Bridge
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 360 at the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River located between Essex and Richmond counties for repairs. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone.
Gloucester County
Route 17, Route 14, Route 619 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection
Tuesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closure to install new traffic signal equipment. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
King George County
Route 301 Southbound
Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single right lane closure on Route 301 southbound between Roseland Drive and Barnsfield Road for bridge construction and realignment as part of Maryland’s Nice-Middleton Bridge Replacement project.
Road Resurfacing
Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Caroline County
Route 17 Emergency Repair
An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in mid-Sept. 2021.
Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement
Route 207 southbound is now traveling over the Mattaponi River on a new bridge, which opened to traffic earlier this week. However, Route 207 northbound remains reduced to a single lane in this active work zone. Final pavement striping is scheduled to occur this weekend or early next week, weather permitting. When this striping is complete, the second northbound lane can reopen. Motorists are asked to remain alert for work crews continuing to complete this project.
Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River
Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.
City of Fredericksburg
Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge
The Chatham Bridge will reopen to traffic on Oct. 10, 2021 after being closed since June 2020 for an improvement project. All construction work will be complete by April 2022.
Essex County
Route 665 (Dodge City Road) Bridge Replacement
Dodge City Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Beverly Run for a bridge replacement project. The road will be closed to through traffic until early January 2022. approximately 5 miles using the following recommended routes:

King George County
Route 301 Slope Repair
Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen in fall 2021.
King William County
Route 360 and Route 662 (Sharon Road) Park & Ride Commuter Lot
The Park & Ride commuter lot near the intersection of Route 360 and Sharon Road is closed through late November 2021 for a construction project to improve the lot. Lancaster County
Merry Point Ferry
A planned maintenance project to clean and paint the Merry Point Ferry vessel began in early September. The planned 45-day maintenance project will temporarily suspend ferry service through early November. The vessel is painted every five years as part of its routine upkeep.
Middlesex County
Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement
A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September 2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:

Richmond County
Route 637 (County Bridge Road)
County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is still under development.
Stafford County
Route 1 at Potomac Creek
Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.
Route 3 Business Bridge Rehabilitation
A bridge rehabilitation project is underway on Route 3 Business eastbound over the CSX railroad tracks, between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road. A single lane is closed continuously on weekdays, beginning on Mondays at 6 a.m. through 8 p.m. Fridays. All lanes are open on weekends. This week, the closure will begin at noon Tuesday, Sept. 7, due to the Labor Day holiday. The weekday lane closure is anticipated to be required through January 2022.
Spotsylvania County
Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening
Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.
Town of West Point and New Kent County
Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)
Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.
Westmoreland County
Route 3 Passing Lanes
Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
