Exit 98 (Doswell) to I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with single to double lane closures for milling and paving the travel lanes north of Exit 98/Doswell at mile marker 101 to mile marker 108, which is near the I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area and Welcome Center. Crews will also close the off-ramp periodically when necessary between these hours at exit 104 (Route 207/Rogers Clark Boulevard). Northbound travelers seeking Route 207 are advised to use exit 110 (Route 639/Ladysmith Road) to I-95 southbound then use the southbound ramps to access Route 207 as the recommended detour. Drivers should use the most convenient alternate route to Route 207 depending on their destination.
Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)
Monday, 9 p.m. – midnight. Single northbound lane closure for construction activities related to the Route 17 overpass replacement project.
Exit 148 (Quantico)

Stafford County
Route 1 Northbound
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single northbound lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.
Route 1 Southbound
Tuesday. Route 1 southbound traffic at Potomac Creek will be shifted slightly left to use the future northbound lanes on the new bridge, under construction. This shift allows crews to build the southbound lanes of the new bridge. Two southbound lanes will remain open.
Route 3 Westbound
24-hour-lane closure. Right westbound lane on Route 3 between Route 607 and Route 218 at the bridge over CSX for work under the bridge.

Route 3 (Historyland Highway)
Wednesday – Thursday, 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday, 5 a.m. – noon. One-way, alternating traffic on Route 3 at the bridge over Chinn’s Mill Pond, which is near the Lancaster County line, for bridge repairs. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone.

Caroline County
Route 17 Emergency Repair
An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in June 2021.
Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement
Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.
Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River
Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.
City of Fredericksburg
Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge
The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.
Gloucester County
Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)
Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.
Gloucester County and King and Queen County
Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek
Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen in July 2021.
Gloucester County and Middlesex County
Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run
Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.
King George County
Route 301 Slope Repair
Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen by early August 2021.
Route 623 (Jersey Road)
Jersey Road is closed to through traffic near the Rt. 301 intersection for an emergency pipe replacement project. Road is anticipated to remain closed until Aug. 2021. Detour route is posted along Route 301 and Route 3.
King William County
Route 662 (Sharon Road)
A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert is anticipated to begin in spring 2021, and will reopen to traffic in summer 2021.
Middlesex County
Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement
A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September 2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:
- Route 625 (Barrick’s Pond Road)
- Route 626 (Wake Road)
- Route 624 (Regent Road)
Northumberland County
Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road)
Hampton Hall Road is closed to through traffic east of Route 619 (Deer Run Road) due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. Motorists should continue to follow the posted detour route for this closure:

Route 202 is anticipated to reopen to traffic in mid-July 2021 after repairs are complete.
Richmond County
Route 637 (County Bridge Road)
County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is still under development.
Stafford County
Route 1 at Potomac Creek
Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.
Spotsylvania County
Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening
Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.
Town of West Point and New Kent County
Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)
Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place through June 2021. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.
Westmoreland County
Route 3 Passing Lanes
Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
