From the Stafford Sheriff’s Office:
A Stafford woman faces serious charges after a vehicle was struck by gunfire at the American Legion Post 290. On June 12 at 8:47 p.m., deputies responded to the American Legion Post 290 on American Legion Road for a shots fired call. Deputies R.L. Hubbard and R.T. Philippsen spoke to several attendees who were at the building for a wedding reception. They reported witnessing a female at a nearby residence fire approximately six rounds from a handgun. An unoccupied truck parked at the building was struck by the gunfire, damaging a side window and the rear cab window.
The deputies identified the shooter as Reema Kelton, 37. Kelton was located in a vehicle at the residence where the shots were fired from, which was approximately 50 yards from the damaged truck. Deputy Hubbard noticed Kelton had slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath. A Glock 45 handgun was recovered at the scene. The investigation revealed that Kelton had taken the handgun from another person without permission.
Kelton was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, grand larceny, destruction of property, and public intoxication. She was held on a $2,000 bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Police are still trying to determine a motive.
