From the Stafford Sheriff’s Office:
Monday at 7:39 a.m., Captain L. Peters was in the area of the 1000 block of Kings Highway when he observed a red Dodge SUV traveling at a high-rate of speed. He made a U-turn and began to catch-up to the vehicle. His radar indicated the vehicle was driving 114 mph. Captain Peters activated his vehicle’s emergency equipment and the driver made an abrupt turn onto a gravel road and accelerated. The vehicle continued on the gravel road before its attempts to elude where thwarted by a fallen tree across the roadway.
Upon stopping, the driver exited her vehicle and began approaching Captain Peters and ignoring commands to stop. She finally complied and was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Celenia Sampson, 27, of Bedford. An infant, unrestrained in a child safety seat, was inside the vehicle as well as two unrestrained toddlers. Sampson was charged with eluding, reckless driving, and three counts of child endangerment. She was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Deputy J.C. Curtis stayed on-scene and fed and burped the infant while caring for the toddlers until a family member arrived to take custody of them.
