From Cooking Autism
In October 2017, April Burch won a Nissan Rogue from Pohanka Nissan of Fredericksburg, but declined to take the vehicle. Instead she asked the manager, Tim Pohanka, to give a small donation to her son’s school to provide funds for a special education life-skills program that was running out of funds. Tim Pohanka wrote a sizable check to this important autism program at Conway Elementary and matched the amount for another donation to the VCU Autism for Excellence Program.
Very quickly after this event, parents and teacher from the state reached out to Mrs. Burch to find out how their child/student could have access to this skill building program. Mrs. Burch, and a team of educators, built a non-profit to help other special needs children in the area. Now providing year-long services to over 590 local special needs children, providing grants and resources to many other schools and special education classrooms in the Rappahannock area.
Now, the local Rappahannock Area YMCA and Tim Pohanka from Pohanka Nissan are partnering to provide huge support for Cooking Autism! They are raffling off a brand new car to help build support for Cooking Autism, Inc, Micah Ministries, G3 Community Services, and the Y!
The tickets are on sale now, and the drawing is on April 10th at Pohanka Nissan of Fredericksburg.
