From the Prince William County Police Department:

Remembering Officer Ashley M. Guindon. End of Watch: February 27, 2016.
Officer Ashley Guindon was sworn in on this day, five years ago. The following evening, February 27, 2016, she responded to her first call for service. Officer Guindon, Officer McKeown, and Officer Hempen responded to a home on Lashmere Court in Woodbridge for a reported domestic altercation. Unbeknownst to the officers, the suspect had already killed his wife inside the residence. Upon making contact with the suspect at the front door, he suddenly and without warning, pulled out a firearm and opened fire, striking all three officers.
Additional responding officers took the suspect into custody without further incident and immediately rendered aid to the wounded officers. All three officers were taken to an area hospital where Officer Guindon died as a result of her injuries. Officers McKeown and Hempen were critically wounded.
Officer Guindon was destined to wear the badge, but her service to her community began long before her days as an officer. She assisted the Marine Corps Mortuary Affairs Office while serving in the Reserves, worked as a pre-hire with Prince William County Police Special Victim’s Unit, and volunteered extensively with the Suicide Prevention Program.
Ashley Guindon was the only daughter of Sharon Nowack Guindon and the late David Guindon.
May we never forget the brave heroes who have given the ultimate sacrifice and the courage they have shown. “In valor there is hope.”
End of Watch: February 27, 2016
