Road conditions throughout the 14-county Fredericksburg District including Interstate 95, primary routes, frequently traveled secondary routes, and commuter lots are clear.
Some secondary roads and less traveled rural routes are in minor condition, which means there is a potential for patches of ice or slush on the roadway and shoulders.
As temperatures drop below freezing tonight, possible refreezing may occur creating slippery conditions. Bridges, overpasses, ramps and less traveled rural routes are likely to freeze first.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) urges drivers to avoid unnecessary travel tonight and delay travel tomorrow morning until temperatures rise above freezing.
VDOT crews will be out patrolling roads overnight and treating icy, hazardous conditions as needed.
If travel is necessary, drivers are encouraged to use extreme caution and:
- Check real time road conditions before leaving home http://www.511virginia.org/
- Plan to allow extra travel time
- Remove any snow and ice from your windshield
- Reduce your vehicle speed
- Increase following distance between vehicles
