From Stafford County:
Stafford County is making headway on a major utilities project that extends from U.S. Route 1 along Accokeek Creek to the Black Branch tributary. Crews are currently making steady progress installing pipelines along U.S. Route 1 and anticipate a completion date of spring 2021. Once completed, this project will add a new pump station and an additional 30,000 linear feet of pipeline to the County’s sewer system.
What does that mean? It means increased capacity, enhanced overall system functionality, and additional sewer system redundancy.
Stafford County Utilities serves approximately 115,000 residents and treats 3.7 billion gallons of water and 3.2 billion gallons of wastewater each year. The service area population and the demand for water and sewer services have increased approximately five-fold in the last 35 years. With the demand for services expected to nearly triple in the next 40 years, the Lower Accokeek project is one of the County’s ongoing utilities projects that will ensure that present and future needs and expectations of residential, commercial and industrial customers continue to be met.
