Message from Police Chief Layton:
If you turn on any news channel lately, it is easy to see that this may be one of the most contentious elections in our country’s history. As Election Day approaches, my agency has received concerns from citizens regarding their safety as they exercise their constitutional right to vote. I want to make it very clear: my officers and I are committed to ensuring public safety before, during, and after Election Day.
In preparation, we have been working closely with our local and state public safety partners to monitor and gather intelligence. Although no credible threats have currently been received locally, please know that on Election Day we will be prepared to provide support to the Voter Registrar, if needed, to better ensure your positive in-person voting experience. If you see suspicious or illegal behavior, please report it immediately by calling our non-emergency number 540-373-3122 or 911 for emergencies. To make an anonymous tip, text “FPDtip” plus your tip to 847-411. Or, download the free Fredericksburg Police app by searching FPD Tip in your phone’s app store.
Lastly, we advise everyone frequenting the polls to remember we are in the middle of a nation-wide health pandemic. It is essential we all follow guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stay six-feet apart, and wear face coverings.
Thank you to everyone exercising their right to vote.
Sincerely,
Police Chief Layton
