To the Citizens of King George,
In relation to the incident in Minneapolis, as your Sheriff, I feel pain and sorrow for the family of George Floyd who lost their loved one in a senseless act.
Currently we do not have all the facts about the incident that took place. However, based on the videos and images I have witnessed, I feel it is urgent to let the citizens of King George County know that I do not condone or agree that there is justification for the force used by law enforcement against George Floyd.
What happened in Minneapolis sickens me to my core. What happened there contradicts everything that my Deputies and I took an oath to stand for.
Please do not let the actions of Law Enforcement Officers that behave as those involved in the death of George Floyd or the lack of action by others tarnish the relationship that we have. Please do not lose faith in our office because of these heinous acts. We are public servants. We took an oath to protect and serve. What happened to George Floyd is a tragedy. I do not take it lightly and will do everything in my power to see that what happened in Minneapolis does not occur here in King George County.
King George Sheriff’s Office has policies and procedures in place that have the safety of ALL Citizens in mind. Our Law Enforcement Officers will exercise their training and follow these policies and procedures so that what happened in Minneapolis does not happen here.
I will continue to work to maintain a professional, well-trained agency, and, equally important, I will treat others the way I would want to be treated in situations of stress and conflict.
We are committed to serving and protecting ALL Citizens of King George County.
May God bless and keep King George County Safe
