From the City of Fredericksburg:
Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Events is doing what we can to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, keeping in mind the importance of movement and being outside for mental health. Our parks and trails are open, but we feel it is necessary at this time to close down outdoor recreation facilities that encourage close physical contact, to include pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts and our hockey rink.
Also keeping in mind that any public facility is only as clean as the last person who touched it, we feel it best to close down our playgrounds for the time being. Facilities have been locked, or blocked off or taped off and signage added to explain that these facilities are closed. In the parks and on the trails that remain open you will see signage reminding everyone to please observe the CDC recommendations for limiting congregating activities to less than 10 people, and to continue to maintain the 6 foot distance for personal contact. We want people outside, breathing the air and moving, just in their own space!
At this time we are keeping our public restrooms open, cleaning and disinfecting them three times daily.
Lastly, the department has cancelled all programs, classes through May 30th. People who have registered for programs or leagues will be given a credit on their Parks and Recreation account that they may use for future programs, or may receive a refund if they request one.
We are disappointed that we cannot provide the life enhancing services and opportunities that we normally offer our community, but our priority is to do our best to keep our community safe and as healthy as possible during this health crisis.
