Apple’s® AirDrop feature is an efficient feature that transfers data between iPhone® devices, iPad® tablets, iPod touch® devices and Mac® computers. With the AirDrop feature, you can instantly share photos, documents, videos, and more with other nearby Apple devices. Likewise, you can use the AirDrop feature to receive content from Apple devices that are nearby.
To begin, some general pointers:
- On iPhone devices, iPad tablets, or iPod touch devices, check the AirDrop feature setting in the Control Center. On a Mac computer, choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder, then make sure that AirDrop is turned on.
- Both devices must be in close proximity to each other and should be in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth range.
- Both devices must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If you have a personal hotspot on, be sure it is turned off.
- Verify the device you are sending content to has the AirDrop feature set to receive from “Contacts Only”. If you are not in their contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to “Everyone”. You have the option to set your AirDrop receiving setting to either “Contacts Only” or “Receiving Off” and can change this anytime to control who can see your device and send you content via the AirDrop feature.
Send content via the AirDrop feature
Open the file that you want to share (either with another person or to another device that you use) and select the AirDrop icon. Select AirDrop as the sharing option and then select the recipient. When the content is ready to be shared with another device, select “Done”.
Receive content with the AirDrop feature
An alert will be displayed on your device when another device is sharing content. You can select “Accept” or “Decline”. The content will show up in the same app that it was sent from (i.e., Safari for a website, Photos app for photos, etc.). Content is automatically sent to the device if you are sharing content with yourself; there will not be an option to “Accept” or “Decline”.
