Sheriff Roger L. Harris announced the arrest of Munir Hussein (51) of New York following a pursuit involving a tractor trailer. Hussein was charged with Felony Eluding, Felony possession of schedule I/II (Methamphetamine), DUID, Refusal to submit to testing, Failure to obey traffic signal x3 and Failure to turn on hazard lights while stopped in the roadway.

On O1/02/2019 at approximately 7:15 PM, Deputies were dispatched to the 3200 block of Partlow Road in reference to a tractor-trailer being parked in the roadway. The deputies arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the operator of the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Hussein, placed the truck in gear and began to drive away. Deputies pursued the vehicle, which led them on a low speed chase along several rural roads in the County. They were able to deploy spike strips, causing several of the tires on the tractor to deflate.

The pursuit ended in the area of Piney Branch Road at Catharpin Road when the tractor-trailer was unable to maneuver a sharp turn. Hussein continued to disregard commands for him to exit the vehicle. He instead retreated to the sleeper area of the tractor and closed himself inside. Numerous attempts were made by trained negotiators to get Hussein to come out peacefully, but he refused to acknowledge or comply.

Hussein was ultimately taken in custody by members of the SWAT team after they made entry into the truck. Hussein was evaluated by medical staff and is currently being held without bond at the regional jail.

Sheriff Harris stated that this was an outstanding job conducted by all of the law enforcement officers involved. He also thanked the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police Department for their assistance in apprehending this suspect.
