From the Fredericksburg Police Department

The Fredericksburg Police Department took Eric Woods, a foster parent, into police custody November 8th, 2018 on one felony count of Child Abuse Causing Injury.

Earlier this year on August 23rd, faculty at an elementary school in Spotsylvania County alerted local law enforcement and Child Protective Services to burn injuries on a male juvenile. It was determined that the child was in foster care and residing with a foster parent in the City of Fredericksburg. At that time, the investigation was turned over to the Fredericksburg Police Department Detective Division. A months-long investigation led by Master Detective P. Lamb, which included consultation with medical experts at the VCU/MCV Children’s Hospital, led to the conclusion that the child had received intentional patterned burn injuries.

Eric L. Woods, 33, of Fredericksburg turned himself in at the Fredericksburg Police Department where he was arrested on one felony count of Child Abuse Causing Injury. He was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Woods was a foster parent licensed through a private child placement agency.
