From Fred-Este
The works of 18th Century Italian composers will again come to life at St. George’s Church, 905 Princess Anne Street, on Friday, October 26 at 7 PM. The free concert, performed by Washington’s Camerata, will feature Baroque compositions by composers who lived and played near Venice (including Vivaldi, Marcello, Caldera, and Rabboni). The annual performance of the William Prescott Carter Italian Composers Series is offered at no charge by the Fredericksburg-Este Association. Donations will be accepted.
Washington’s Camerata, founded in 2009, is a period instrument ensemble dedicated to the music of the 17th and 18th centuries. The ensemble performs with period instruments and aims to bring charming, rarely heard music to new audiences. The group has performed throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and is in residence at St. George’s. The evening’s performers are Dr. Kelly Kazik, a founder of the group; Trystan Bennett, Director of Music at Aquia Episcopal in Stafford; and Caitlin Bennett, who works with the Aquia Children’s Music Ministry.
The concert is dedicated to Bill Carter, a longtime member of St. George’s, as well as a lifelong choral performer. Before his death in 2017, Bill found a new enthusiasm in Italian culture through the sister city group, which now honors his lifelong service to the region through this annual concert.
