Germanna Community College’s Fredericksburg Center for Advanced Technology (FredCAT) hosted a VDOT SmarterRoads Hackathon event Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29. The event had teams of developers, students, planners, futurists and data enthusiasts working with SmarterRoads.com and VDOT data sets to innovate solutions and improvements for Virginia’s most pressing transportation needs. The winners were:

The two-day event is being held at Germanna Community College’s Fredericksburg Center for Advanced Technology in Central Park.
Commonwealth Transportation Board member Hap Connors, who represents the 14-county Fredericksburg District, welcomed attendees and encouraged them to tackle local transportation challenges.
A list of project ideas teams might be working on over this afternoon and Saturday.
After a welcome session and a round of lightning pitches to share ideas, teams are working with mentors this afternoon and evening to code.
