From Stafford County Public Schools
STAFFORD, VA – Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) is excited to begin the new school year. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 marks the first day of school for over 29,000 new and returning students. Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner and Stafford School Board members will visit schools to welcome students, parents, and staff. New features and highlights for the 2018-2019 school year include:
New Superintendent
On July 17, 2018, the Stafford County School Board unanimously voted to select Dr. Scott Kizner as the new superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools. Dr. Kizner begins his new role on September 1, 2018. He joins SCPS from Harrisonburg City Public Schools where he served as the superintendent since 2010.
Dr. Kizner began his teaching career as a special education teacher and served as a school psychologist. Dr. Kizner received his master’s degree in counseling psychology and his education specialist degree in school psychology from James Madison University. He completed his doctoral degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a concentration in student personnel and school psychology.
Online Back to School Forms
SCPS continues to move to a paperless organization by hosting the Back to School forms in the online parent portal, ParentVue. This allows parents to log in to their private account and access up-to-date information about schedules, attendance, and grades, and now fill out necessary registration forms.
School Safety Awareness
SCPS launches a new tip line on September 4, 2018, to encourage students, staff, and parents to anonymously report suspicious activity in the schools. The goal is to stop a potentially dangerous incident before it starts and keep schools safe. Banners posted in the schools and central office will encourage everyone to report suspicious activity.
Anne E. Moncure Elementary School Rebuild Update
The new Anne E. Moncure Elementary School rebuild remains on schedule. The official opening is August 2019 for the 2019-2020 school year. A fly over tour of the construction project can be found at on YouTube.
Track Upgrade at Colonial Forge High School
The track at Colonial Forge High School underwent a major repair and upgrade effort over the summer. The repair is part of a division wide high school track effort to raise the quality of SCPS high school track surfaces. The long/triple jump, high jump, and pole vault areas were included in the upgrade as well as the replacement of the pedestrian fencing, the resurfacing of the pedestrian walkway around the track, and the installation of a practice shot put pad. Upgrades
A.G. Wright Middle School and Garrisonville Elementary School underwent a comprehensive interior renovation project, which included the replacement of all flooring, interior doors/hardware, and ceilings, wall were painted throughout the school and the combined cafeteria and stage were refinished.
