The disAbility Resource Center hosts its third annual Independent Living Expo April 28, 2018, 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Expo Center. There is no cost to attend. Come see, touch, try and learn about services and technology of all kinds and experience what’s new, what’s available, and what can help people with disabilities live an independent life. In addition to the many organizations, the IL Expo will have a helicopter from Phi Air Medical in the parking lot for individuals to see and tour.
Mini information sessions will be available throughout the Expo. The speaker schedule includes Dan Goodwin from the Washington group speaking on special needs trusts and long-term financial planning at 10:15, Elizabeth Braswell from the Transportation Security Administration speaking on traveling with a disability at 11:15, Kristin Hartness from Canines for Disabled Kids discussing service dogs at 12:15, Kevin Koziol from the disAbility Resource Center speaking on self-advocacy and the American with Disabilities Act at 1:15, and Becky Nelson from ABLEnow presenting on the new ABLE accounts that allow people with disabilities to save money. Becky will be speaking at 2:30.
Independent Living Expo vendors include employment services, travel services, home health care services, waiver service providers, vehicle and home modification providers, an adaptive clothing provider and more.
