From The Community Foundation
The Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new $1,000,000 designated charitable fund invested for the good of the Fredericksburg community. The Directors of the Board of the Sunshine Lady Foundation selected The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region as the ideal partner to manage this gift inspired by Doris Buffett, the visionary founder and funder of the Sunshine Lady Foundation. Many in the region know that Doris Buffett’s philanthropy is the reason that all city residents, regardless of their means, have enjoyed free pool access since 2006. The facility was re-named in her honor in 2016.
Each year, a percentage of the proceeds of the Doris E. Buffett Pool Fund of The Community Foundation “shall be used to pay the daily entrance fees to the Doris E. Buffett Pool in Fredericksburg, Virginia for the residents of Fredericksburg, thereby guaranteeing free access for all for the enjoyment of the pool.”
“The Sunshine Lady Foundation has been remarkably generous over many years. We are honored that the board selected The Community Foundation to carry out Mrs. Buffett’s best intentions for our community for years to come,” stated Christine Repp, President, The Community Foundation Board of Governors.
A designated fund with The Community Foundation is designed to support a donor’s favorite charitable organization in perpetuity, or assist it over a set number of years. All funds managed by The Community Foundation enable planned giving, investment management services, and the power of endowment.
