The white-columned Fredericksburg Square building at 525 Caroline Street could become a boutique hotel.
At a Fredericksburg Economic Development breakfast this morning, owner Van Perroy said he and his wife, Deborah, are considering plans for the 164-year-old property as they mull retirement.
Perroy originally bought the building in 1996 to house his custom embroidery business. The entrance space of the building was originally a townhouse, and it was expanded with events space as an Elks Lodge. Perroy now hosts events, weddings and receptions in the building.
The Perroys started making plans for a hotel on the property in 2001, but the 9-11 attacks derailed those plans.
Lee Shadbolt with Commonwealth Architects presented plans for an addition to the building that would add two wings with guest rooms and a courtyard. Shadbolt’s company has converted historic properties across the state into other uses.
