Potomac Mills sign finally down

by | Mar 4, 2018 | Traffic

The huge Potomac Mills sign that was damaged during windstorms last week has finally been taken down.

The 140-foot-tall sign was leaning and bent, causing VDOT to close southbound lanes of I-95 in Woodbridge and reroute traffic onto the express lanes. The lanes have been closed since Friday.

Crews were unable to work on the sign until wind speeds died down. The sign is privately owned, but crews from VDOT, Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, Virginia State Police and Prince William County Police worked together to manage the situation.

VDOT crews worked at reopening the lanes Sunday night, and they expect traffic to flow as normal Monday.
