City: nearly all residents have power back, special debris pickup

All but 340 customers, of the more than 2,500 out yesterday, remain without power. Dominion Energy now has more than 4,000 crew members serving Virginia working to handle the 5th largest power outage in recent history. They will remain focused over the next several days to fully restore power to all customers. The Rappahannock Regional Landfill is suspending charges at the Regional Landfill for storm debris until March 12 to residents of the City and Stafford County. Residents are asked to bring their large amounts of storm debris to the landfill on 489 Eskimo Hill Road, Stafford where they are better equipped to manage this type and volume of material. The Landfill is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Belman Road Convenience Center will accept smaller amounts of storm debris.
They are open the same hours as listed above.
Due to this severe windstorm event, the City is offering a special residential curbside collection of small sticks and limbs during week of March 12 – 16. The City will remove small quantities of sticks and limbs at no charge during this week.
The following conditions will apply to this special collection: · Sticks must be bagged in paper bags or bundled together with twine. A maximum of 5 bags or bundles will be collected. Brush piles are NOT acceptable. · Limbs must be no larger than 4 inches in diameter and must be cut to 4 foot lengths. The volume of limbs is limited to 16 cubic feet or less than 75 pounds (About the same volume as 3 trash containers) · All material must be placed at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 13. Crews will make daily rounds throughout the City and will attempt to collect all items by Friday, March 16.
What is NOT acceptable: · Brush Piles · Whole trees or portions thereof. Any tree debris from contracted work is prohibited from being placed curbside. · Limbs larger than 4 inches in diameter or longer than 4 feet. · Sticks and twigs that are unbagged or untied. Brush piles are prohibited from being placed at the curb. · Non-storm related debris or landscaping debris.
Residents do not need to call the City to arrange for collection of small quantities of sticks and limbs in accordance with the rules stated above; however, for larger volumes of debris, please contact the Department of Public Works at 372-1023 before moving any items to the curb. A special collection fee may apply. Residents who subscribe to the City’s trash collection service may dispose of small amounts of sticks and twigs by placing them inside their trash containers. (DO NOT use recycling containers). The City is not responsible for removing trees or limbs from private property.
