Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Aquia Creek at mile marker 145

The I-95 bridges over Aquia Creek are located just after Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) at mile marker 145.

I-95 Northbound:

o Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single, right lane closed.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek at mile marker 137

The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137.

I-95 Southbound:

o Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. Saturday

9 p.m. – one lane closed
10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
4:30 a.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. the following morning except on Friday when all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. On Friday, double lane closure will begin at 10 p.m. and all lanes will reopen 7 a.m. Saturday.
I-95 Northbound:

o Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single, left lane and shoulder to be closed.

Spotsylvania County: I-95 Bridge over Ni River at mile marker 121

The I-95 bridges over the Ni River are located just south of Exit 126/Massaponax at mile marker 121.

I-95 Northbound:

o Wednesday –Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single, left lane and shoulder closure and brief delays near the work zone.

Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

Work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Courthouse Road will be reduced to one lane from Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive. Crews will be working near the I-95/Exit 140 interchange. Flaggers will direct one-way traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Walpole Street for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Winding Creek Road at Courthouse Road

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Winding Creek Road for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the interchange and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in Fredericksburg. Motorists should be prepared for the following lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or Central Park shopping area.

Route 3 Westbound

(Update) Monday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 9 a.m. Expect single left lane closures on Route 3 westbound near the Route 3/I-95 Interchange at Exit 130 for construction activities. Expect brief, overnight delays.

Carl D. Silver Parkway

(New) Monday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 9 a.m. A single southbound lane on Carl D. Silver Parkway, the main Central Park exit, will be closed overnight for water line and sewer work. Drivers seeking to westbound Route 3 from Central Park will be detoured to Trade Street then to Central Park Boulevard. Signs will be posted to warn drivers about the closure and detour. Traffic will still be allowed to turn to eastbound Route 3 towards I-95.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project will build a new I-95 overpass and improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, improve Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect a single, left lane on I-95 northbound closed at the interchange for construction activities. Expect brief delays.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road near the Exit 118 interchange for storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Mallard Road

(New) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mallard Road for storm sewer installation. Motorists should expect brief delays. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

City of Fredericksburg Work Zones

Route 1

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 1 near Idlewild Boulevard for traffic engineering work. Expect brief delays.

Spotsylvania County Work Zone

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 126/Massaponax

Monday ˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. A single lane on I-95 southbound at Exit 126/Massaponax will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to continue repair work on the bridge over Route 1 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. each day. A single lane will remain closed until 6 a.m. each day. Expect overnight delays.

Route 1 at I-95 Interchange (Exit 126)

(Update) Monday ˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Expect a single lane closed on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the traffic signals and on-ramps to Interstate 95 at Exit 126/Massaponax interchange. Lane closures are needed to allow crews to work underneath the I-95 bridges. Expect brief, overnight delays.

Route 3 (Plank Road)

(Update) Monday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 eastbound and westbound near Salem Church Road to Taskforce Drive for sewer line replacement. This is a Spotsylvania County project. Expect brief delays.

Route 208 (Courthouse Road)

(New) Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Courthouse Road near Morris Road for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.

Route 638 (Landsdowne Road)

(New) Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Landsdowne Road near Teton Drive for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike)

(New) Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) near Penola Road to allow crews to inspect the bridge over Polecat Creek. Expect brief delays near the bridge approaches.

Route 639 (Ladysmith Road)

(New) Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect only shoulder closures on Ladysmith Road near the Route 1 intersection to allow crews to take soil samples.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Lancaster County/Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 3 and Robert O. Norris Bridge

Temporary traffic signals are installed at the center spans of the Norris Bridge on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Two temporary signals control one-way, alternating traffic at the bridge’s center spans 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Crews are using the closed lane to paint the center spans of the bridge over the Rappahannock River. The signals will remain in place until the end of the painting project in June 2018.

Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 17 (Tidewater Trail)

Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 northbound near Dragon Road and southbound Route 17 near Old Virginia Street and Regent Road for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.

Richmond County Work Zone

Route 360

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗ 6 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 360 eastbound and westbound near Route 624 (Newland Road) for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays.

City of Fredericksburg
