Stafford, VA.- The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a series of fraudulent ATM withdrawals from BB&T customer accounts. Since Sunday, September 10, 2017 the Stafford Sheriff’s Office has taken in excess of thirty fraud reports related to BB&T accounts. All victims recently conducted business at the BB&T branch located at 375 Chatham Heights Road. It appears as if a skimming device was illegally placed on the ATM machine at BB&T’s Chatham Heights branch. Skimming devices are used by thieves to collect personal account information. These devices read and save the users card number and pin code, which is then replicated into a counterfeit copy for theft.
Anyone who has information about who committed this crime is asked to contact the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658- 4400, Stafford Crime Solvers at 540-659- 2020 (where callers may remain anonymous) or TEXT “Stafford” + your tip to CRIMES (27463). Furthermore, anyone who believes they are a victim should also contact the Sheriff’s Office.
