From VDOT

School starts Tuesday, Sept. 5 in Stafford County.

We encourage you to add a few extra minutes to your travel time as parents, teachers, students and staff adjust to the back-to-school schedule with a reduced speed limit and an additional traffic signal.

Drivers on Courthouse Road will notice a reduced speed limit of 35 mph in the work zone from Ramoth Church Road to Cedar Lane to ensure the safety of working crew members and the traveling public.

A new traffic signal, pavement markings and pedestrian crosswalks were also installed at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School and Courthouse Road.

The orange barrels, lower speed limit, new traffic signal are all part of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project to widen the road from two lanes to four and reconfigure the Exit 140 interchange.

The $185 million project will widen Courthouse Road between Ramoth Church Road and Cedar Lane, and build a diverging diamond at the Exit 140 interchange to reduce congestion and accommodate future growth in the Courthouse Road corridor.

The temporary speed limit of 35 mph will be enforced during construction, which is expected to be complete by July 2020.
