From the publisher: Walk for mental health

So, when I’m not doing this Fredericksburg Today thing, or my Rambletype agency thing, or other things, I’m on the board of Mental Health America of Fredericksburg.
I joined the board six years ago because a good friend asked me to, and as I’ve grown with the organization it’s become very clear to me that far more of the people around me struggle silently with mental health challenges than I ever imagined.

One of the things MHAF does is try to fight the stigma of mental health issues and to connect people in our region with the services and help they need. We have a Help Line that you can call to try to connect with services in the area. (540-371-2704)

We also have a ton of amazing volunteers who do our Senior Visitors Program, which gives isolated seniors someone to talk to during the week.

And we’re trying to get suicide prevention training established in all of our area middle and high schools. We’re hearing more and more that kids are dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts at a younger and younger age. As a father of two, I’m determined to make sure our community’s kids know there are people who can help them.

If any of this stuff resonates with you, please join us at our 10th annual Walk for Mental Wellness this weekend. It’s Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 9 AM at Hurkamp Park in Fredericksburg. You can learn more and sign up at http://mhafred.org/walk.
Or if you just want to donate, go here: http://mhafred.dojiggy.com/ChristopherMuldrow

And if you want to learn more, call our amazing staff (Hi, Rita, Teresa, Tony, Melanie, Laurie, and Mary Terese!) at 540-371-2704 or email director Rita Girard at [email protected].

Thanks, and thanks for reading Fredericksburg Today. – chris
