Universal Dynamics, Inc., (Una-Dyn, a Piovan Company) is expanding, and moving its headquarters from Woodbridge, Virginia, to Spotsylvania County.
The Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors voted to approve the project during their April 11, 2017, meeting.
The agreement calls for Una-Dyn to invest $4 million by July 2019 to acquire, renovate, and expand the 88,000 square-foot building on 17 acres at 11700 Shannon Dr., and install $1million in equipment during that same time frame.
The deal will also create a minimum of 50 full-time jobs within 12 months of occupancy, said Michelle McGinnis, Spotsylvania County director of Community Engagement. These jobs will pay more than $40,000 a year.
“The county has structured a jobs-based incentive package that includes $2,250 per year for two years for each job in the county paying over $40,000, to encourage the hiring of 200 or more personnel over a 10-year period,” McGinnis said. In addition, the agreement provides for future dedication of right-of-way for possible extension of Shannon Drive.
“The project represents several of the county‘s guiding principles, including promoting family-sustaining jobs, reducing commutes, and diversifying the economy,” said Courtland Supervisor and Board Chairman David Ross.
“This move will allow us to increase our production capabilities to meet U.S. marketplace demands, including manufacturing new ranges of equipment currently manufactured off-shore,” Una-Dyn President Bill Goldfarb.
Universal Dynamics is a world-wide manufacturer of equipment used by producers of plastic containers and packaging. The company has been located in Virginia since 1957, and was purchased by Piovan in 2008.
Published employment opportunities and job fair being scheduled.
