Spotsylvania County Launches New Public Radio System
Spotsylvania County has launched a new public radio system, providing coverage in areas where it had been limited or non-existent, and the ability to communicate with other localities. The Harris Project 25 Phase 2 800MHz mission critical public safety communications system is the most modern technology available, according to county staff.

Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group Opens Fredericksburg Branch
Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group has opened a branch at 10008 Southpoint Pkwy., Suite 101, in Fredricksburg. Brian Brooks is the area sales manager. Atlantic Bay is a private mortgage lender headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They offer a variety of products, including conventional, VA, FHA, and construction loans.

Joan Carter has joined the Fredericksburg branch of Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group. Carter has 19 years of experience in the banking and mortgage industry. She specializes in helping first time home buyers, veterans and service members, and borrowers involved in new construction projects.

29 Downtown Businesses Participate in 2017 Arts and Cultural District Incentives Program
The Fredericksburg Department of Economic Development and Tourism (EDT) reports 29 businesses are participating in Arts and Cultural District Incentives Program for 2017. “Businesses apply for this program at the end of each calendar year, in order to get a reduction on their business license tax in March,” said EDT Director Bill Freehling. “We will start taking applications later this year for businesses seeking a reduction on their 2018 business license tax through this program,” he said.

New Law Office Opens in Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg native Anne Ligon Woodbridge has opened a law office in downtown Fredericksburg. Ligon is a graduate of James Monroe High School and the University of Mary Washington. Prior to attending law school at George Mason University, she was director of Community Relations at Mary Washington Hospital. Her office is located at 201 Princess Anne St., in the house built in 1812 by Philip Terrier, a ship’s carpenter by trade. In addition to the Commonwealth of Virginia, Woodbridge is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and the State of New York. Office hours are Monday through Saturday by appointment only. Call 540-371-4720.

UMW Professor An Association for Psychological Science Rising Star
Laura C. Wilson, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Mary Washington, has been named a Rising Star by the Association for Psychological Science (APS), a professional organization of more than 33,000 members from more than 80 countries. The APS Rising Star designation is presented to outstanding psychological scientists in the earliest stages of their research careers post-Ph.D.
