More than 5,000 high-quality video training courses are now available free of charge to Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL) customers through Lynda.com from LinkedIn.
The online learning platform provides business, software, technology, and creative classes taught by industry experts in subjects that include software development, design, web development, and photography.
Courses are offered at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, and new courses are added monthly.
Individual memberships to Lynda.com start at $19.99 a month, but CRRL customers can access Lynda.com via the library’s Research Page. You can also bookmark CRRL’s Lynda.com login page for direct access.
CRRL customers log in with their 14-digit library barcode and four-digit PIN number. (Call any CRRL branch for assistance obtaining your barcode and PIN.)
First-time users create a free account by entering their name and email address before having access to all the courses.
You can view individual courses, create playlists, access packages of courses called “paths,” subscribe to weekly series, and watch documentaries featuring industry experts and creative visionaries.
Lynda.com is accessible 24/7 via web browsers from desktop computers or mobile devices. Customers using mobile devices will need to use their web browser, not the Lynda.com app, which is only available to individual subscribers.
Courses can be downloaded for offline viewing, and many offer practice files for downloading. Additionally, some course paths offer industry-recognized certificates of completion.
“Our mission is to inspire lifelong learning for everyone in our community,” Library Director Martha Hutzel said. “Lynda.com allows library customers to enhance existing skill sets, learn new skills, and explore new interests without the limitations of cost. We are able to offer resources like Lynda.com because we have such great support from our regional partners — the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Westmoreland.”
You may apply for a library card online, or at any branch. Bring a valid ID or proof of address. Questions? Call 540-372-1144.
