VDOT hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George for December 18 – 25, 2016.

District-Wide Bridge Washing
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m ˗˗ 5 a.m. Bridge washing will take place at the following locations this week. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures and brief delays during the overnight hours for these mobile work zones. Each bridge takes approximately two hours to wash.

Stafford County
Route 17 ˗˗ bridge over Deep Run
Route 1001 ˗˗ bridge over Falls Run

Caroline County
Route 207 ˗˗ bridge over Polecat Creek

King George County
Route 218 ˗˗ bridge over RF&P railroad tracks

City of Fredericksburg
Route 1 Southbound
(Update) On Thursday, motorists should be prepared for a slight traffic shift at midday on Route 1 near Mary Washington Boulevard. Southbound traffic will be shifted over onto the new pavement while crews finish up work in the median as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Flaggers will be present and direct traffic, expect brief delays.

Fall Hill Avenue
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal Monday, Noon – 3 p.m., Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon.
Mary Washington Boulevard

Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 24 hours, Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median of Mary Washington Boulevard between Route 1 and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Crews will be working to install new curb and paving. Lanes will remain open, but will be narrowed. Work will be underway in this area until the project is complete in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 1 Falmouth Bridge
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m ˗˗ 6 a.m. (Route 1 northbound) and 7 a.m. (Route 1 southbound). Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) northbound and southbound at the Falmouth Bridge. Crews will replace temporary asphalt patches on the bridge deck with concrete to provide a smoother, more durable travel surface and avoid potholes. Expect brief delays.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 3 (Kings Highway) – shoulder work
Route 608 (Brooke Road) – brush cutting
Route 616 (Poplar Road) – brush cutting
Route 624 (Morton Road) – shoulder work
Route 641 (Onville Road) – patching
Route 655 (Holly Corner Road) – shoulder work
Route 752 (Richards Ferry Road) – mowing and ditching

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Crews will be inspecting various sign structures between mile marker 125, near Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponnax) and mile marker 128. Motorists should expect single lane closures and brief delays for the mobile work zones during these overnight hours.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. Bridge rehabilitation work will resume on the I-95 bridge over the Ni River located at mile marker 121, south of Exit 126 (Spotsylvania). The left shoulder on I-95 northbound will be closed in the work zone. All travel lanes will remain open.

Route 3
(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m., Crews will be working on Route 3 and Route 620 (Harrison Road) on pedestrian modifications to the intersection. Motorists need to be alert as they approach the intersection. There may be brief delays with the right-turn lane intermittently closed.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 17 (Mills Drive) – brush cutting
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – brush cutting
Route 606 (Post Oak Road) – ditching
Route 612 (Stubbs Bridge Road) – pipe replacement
Route 652 (Belemont Road) – shoulder work
Route 684 (Craig’s Church Road) – tree trimming
Runnymeade Trail – patching
Boxwood Circle – patching
Fillmore Lane – debris removal

Caroline County
Route 17
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Drivers need to be alert as they approach these intersections on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) from Route 675 (Hazelwood Lane) to Route 686 (Camden Road), as crews will be conducting traffic signal safety inspections. There will be alternating single lane mobile closures overnight at the intersections in all directions.

Route 301 and Route 17 Intersection
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 p.m ˗˗ 6 a.m. Crews will work to upgrade the traffic signal at the Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) and Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) intersection. There will be alternating single lane closures overnight. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 644 (Bagby Road) – litter pickup
Route 647 (Reedy Mill Road) – ditching
Route 654 (Colemans Mill Road) – shoulder work
Route 690 (Old CC Road) – machine roadway
Route 1403 (Quail Oak Drive) – ditching

King George County
Route 218/Route 206 Intersection
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Crews will be working to install a new traffic signal at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. There will be alternating single lane closures overnight. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.
