Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL) has been named a Star Library by Library Journal (LJ) magazine. CRRL earned a four-star designation, for the third consecutive year.

CRRL is one of only three Virginia library systems to receive a star rating in 2016. The others are Mary Riley Styles Public Library in Falls Church (four stars), and Loudoun County Public Library, headquartered in Leesburg (three stars).

CRRL has received a star rating each of the nine years LJ has been rating public libraries.

“CRRL continues to set the bar for public libraries in Virginia,” said Kathryn Miller, chair of the Library Board of Trustees

In 2016, 7,349 U.S. public libraries qualified to be rated in the LJ Index of Public Library Service. Of those, there are 260 Star Libraries, each receiving three-star, four-star, or five-star designations.

Eligible libraries are grouped by total operating expenditures and then, within each of those groups, rated on five measures: library visits, circulation, program attendance, public Internet terminals, and electronic circulation.

This year’s Library Journal index is based on Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) data for FY14.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library includes eight branches providing free library cards to residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania and Westmoreland. CRRL also has reciprocal agreements with the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, Fauquier, Orange and Prince William that allow residents to obtain free cards by showing a card from their library. All others pay an annual family fee of $30. Senior citizens (65+) pay $15. For more information, visit the website, LibraryPoint.
