The University of Mary Washington’s Jazz Ensemble, the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association, and Legal Aid Works℠ (formally Rappahannock Legal Services) will host their third annual Jazz 4 Justice concert on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016.
Ticket proceeds are divided equally between UMW’s music department for jazz scholarships, and Legal Aid Works for providing legal services free of charge to qualified low-income individuals in Fredericksburg and the surrounding 16 counties.
“This is a wonderfully diverse concert, directed by Doug Gately of UMW’s Jazz Department,” said Jackie Schlesinger, development director for Legal Aid Works.
Members of the Jazz Ensemble include UMW music students, faculty, and professional musicians.
“This year’s program includes a Gospel group under the direction of Pastor Eric Armstead, Celtic dancers from the Muggivan School of Irish Dance, and pieces arranged by Mr. Gately for the Fredericksburg Area Young Musicians Chorus,” Schlesinger said. The program is followed by a jam session, in which all ticket holders are invited to play.
“It’s going to be an upbeat, toe-tapping evening of jazz music for people of all ages,” Schlesinger said.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Mary Washington’s George Washington Hall, Dodd Auditorium, 1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online, at the event, or in advance at the following locations:
