Fredericksburg, Va. — The candidates for Congress in Virginia’s First District will debate at the University of Mary Washington (UWM) on October 24, 2016.
U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman (R) has held the seat since 2007. He is seeking the GOP nomination for Virginia governor in 2017. He previously served as a member of the state House of Delegates and the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors.
Matt Rowe (D), is a member of the Bowling Green Town Council. A graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Rowe earned a post-baccalaureate certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Virginia Commonwealth University, and works in Stafford County as a G.I.S. analyst.
The debate begins at 7:30 p.m. in Dodd Auditorium, 1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg.
The debate is co-sponsored by UMW College Republicans, UMW Young Democrats the UMW Legislative Action Committee of the Student Government Association, the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and The Free Lance–Star.
