Josh Hardy, the Fredericksburg boy who made national headlines during his long battle with cancer, died September 22, 2016, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 10.

Josh made headlines in 2014, when his family fought pharmaceutical company Chimerix to allow Josh access to their drug Brincidofovir, which at the time was still in trial and not available to the general public.

Earlier this week, Josh’s mother Aimee Hardy wrote on Facebook that time might be short. “Last night the doctors told us there is nothing else they can do to help Josh. We made the decision to just only do medical interventions that provide comfort. As I lay in bed holding him I still feel You Lord are keeping your promise to heal him even though the circumstances look so dire. I refuse to believe anything else.”

Josh was first diagnosed with cancer when he was nine-months-old.

Josh and his family spent his last day on earth together at the hospital. “Dear Lord~ Thank you for today. Thank you for a beautiful day together as a family watching Movies and visiting with friends we have made here at St Jude’s,” his mother wrote on CaringBridge.
