The National Park Service’s 15th annual History at Sunset 10-part series will feature eight programs never presented before. In recognition of the Centennial of the National Park Service, four programs will focus on the evolution of the park.

Kruger Brothers in Concert

The Kruger Brothers provide a unique voice in the world of folk, Americana and classical music. Jens Kruger is an inductee to the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame (2011) and is the fourth recipient of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass (2013).

Civil War Paddle
Saturday, June 11, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Meet at the Ely’s Ford boat launch on the Rapidan River, 10599 Elys Ford Rd., Spotsylvania Courthouse, Va.
Join Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) and National Park Service Supervisory Historian Greg Mertz for a daylong canoe trip, highlighting many of the Civil War sites along the Rapidan and Rappahannock rivers. You’ll float from Germanna Ford to Ely’s Ford, through rapids, past eagle nests, and have lunch on a sandbar. Bring a bag lunch, sunscreen and plenty of water. Meet at the Ely’s Ford boat ramp at 8 a.m., 4.5 miles north of Route 3 on Route 610. You’ll arrive back at Ely’s Ford at about 4 p.m., depending on water flow. This trip fills fast, so register early. Minimum age is 12 years. This is a strenuous event. Backup date: next day.

National Capitol Squadron Open Hanger Day

Shakespeare on the Lawn at Kenmore returns this June with four performances of Hamlet — one of the most powerful and influential tragedies in English literature. The production is set in an eighteenth-century style, as if a young George Washington is in the audience. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Come early and enjoy your own picnic on the lawn. Tours of the mansion offered from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m., with performances starting at 7 p.m.
