Traffic Hot Spots May 27 – June 4

VDOT traffic alerts for the Fredericksburg District May 27 – June 4, 2016.

Stafford County (Fredericksburg Area)
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Crews will be paving on I-95 northbound between mile marker 146 and mile marker 148 located just south of the Prince William County line. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and delays in this area.

Route 1
(Update) Be alert for a temporary traffic pattern on Route 1 southbound at the site of the new Aquia Hilton. The through lanes on Route 1 southbound from just south of Port Aquia Drive to just prior to the intersection of Route 1 and Coachman Drive (at the 7-Eleven) will be shifted to the left. The continuous center lane for left turns in this area will be closed to accommodate the traffic shift. This work is related to construction of the Aquia Hilton. The pattern is anticipated to be in place through early July 2016.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
(Update) Tuesday – Saturday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed intermittently on Route 610 eastbound and westbound at Onville Road. Crews are placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Route 608 (Brooke Road)
(New) Tuesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Crews will be paving on Route 608 (Brooke Road) at Route 607 (Deacon Road). Motorists should expect delays at this intersection.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 a.m. – noon. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. VDOT crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – shoulder work and mowing
Route 17 (Warrenton Road) – mowing
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) – mowing
Route 627 (Mountain View Road) – mowing
Route 608 (Brooke Road) – mowing
Route 711 (Juggins Road) – machine gravel road
Route 609 (Raven Road) – machine gravel road
Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) – mowing
Route 626 (Morton Road) – shoulder work
Route 603 (Cassion Road) – brush cutting
Crows Nest – road construction

City of Fredericksburg (Fredericksburg Area)
Route 3 Eastbound, I-95 Northbound On-Ramp
(Update) Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 4 a.m. The on-ramp to northbound Interstate 95 from Route 3 eastbound will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. Wednesday night until 4 a.m. Thursday morning Crews will be applying high friction surface treatment to the pavement as a safety enhancement to improve driver traction in wet or slick conditions. All through lanes of Route 3 eastbound will remain open.

Fall Hill Avenue
(Update) Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal for construction activity during the following times. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone during the following hours:
Tuesday, noon – 3 p.m.
Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. – noon.

Mary Washington Boulevard
(Update) Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard for construction activity during the following times. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone during the following hours:
Tuesday, noon – 3 p.m.
Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. – noon.

Spotsylvania County (Fredericksburg Area)
Route 1 at Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)
(Update) Tuesday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Crews will be completing the final punch list items on this project. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures in the work zone. This project is expected to be complete this week, weather permitting.

Route 628 (Smith Station Road)
(New) Beginning Tuesday the Route 628 (Smith Station Road) Turn Lanes and Signal Modification project will be underway. The project is located on Smith Station Road near the Route 208 (Courthouse Road) intersection. This week motorists should expect lane closures and delays on Route 628 southbound between the CVS entrance and Courtland High School. Flaggers will be directing traffic through the work zone from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day through Saturday, June 4.

Harrison Road
Motorists should expect intermittent flagging and single lane closures on Route 620 (Harrison Road) for tree removal. This work is in connection with the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection improvement project.
Crews will be working on the following days:
Tuesday, noon – 3 p.m.
Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. – noon.

Saddlebrooke Subdivision
(Update) Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Subdivision paving will continue this week. Motorists can expect mobile lane closures throughout the neighborhood.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 a.m. – noon. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. VDOT crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:
Route 1 Business (Lafayette Boulevard) – mowing
Route 618 (River Road) – mowing and shoulder work
Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) – mowing
Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) – mowing
Route 606 (Morris Road) – mowing
Route 721 (Grand Brooks) – rural rustic roadway prep
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – mowing
Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – mowing
Route 612 (Monrovia Road) – mowing

Caroline County (Fredericksburg Area)
Routine Maintenance
Tuesday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 a.m. – noon. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. VDOT crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:
Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) – mowing
Route 30 (Dawn Boulevard) – mowing
Route 627 (Mattoponi Trail) – ditching
Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) – mowing

King George County (Northern Neck Area)
Route 610
(New) Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be paving on Route 610 between Route 218 and Route 606. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Highway Improvement Projects
City of Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard. The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Travel lanes will remain open, but motorists may encounter slight traffic shifts in the work zone. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is finishing this week, weather permitting, to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2018.

Caroline County
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)
Nelson Hill Road is closed to traffic at the bridge over the Mattaponi River for a bridge rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted detour route. Estimated completion is mid-September 2016.

Caroline County/King George County
Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be installed in the future. Project completion is October 2017.

Westmoreland County
Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Longfield Road. This project will be completed by July 2016.
