Fredericksburg’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism (EDT) presented four 2016 Excellence in Business Awards during its annual business appreciation reception earlier this month.

River Rock Outfitter received the Cooperative Partnership and Community Service Award, which “recognizes a business that has initiated partnerships with other businesses and whose community service goes beyond ‘normal’ responsibilities.”

From the EDT: “River Rock Outfitters has jumped ahead in our city bringing together numerous businesses. Efforts include enjoyment of our river, clean-up, education, organizing the Rock the River event, and promoting a healthier community. They continue to drive new life and excitement into the city.

The Princess Anne Building, LLC received the Exceptional Facade Renovation and Revitalization award, which “recognizes a business for its investment of facade improvements to the building in which their business is located.”

From the EDT: “The building at 903 Princess Anne St. has been a huge part of Fredericksburg’s history, and the owners have preserved it for our community. Their most recent improvements totaled over $20,000. A major portion of this endeavor were the new brick sidewalks for public safety.”

Agora Downtown Coffee Shop received the Entrepreneurial Spirit award; “The entrepreneur takes a vision and turns it into reality.”

From the EDT: “Agora Downtown Coffee Shop has become a gathering place for our downtown community and visitors. They are more than just a coffee shop, selling local handmade wares of artists, artisan and musicians has become a main stay. They strive to raise awareness of local charities and provide job experience through Micah Ministries.”

Capital Ale House received the Business of the Year award, for being a mainstay of our community. “They create innovative business strategies, marketing success with flexibility and adaptability in a changing business world, strong economic community leadership, and exceptional, informed customer service.”

From the EDT: “Capital Ale House is a 100 percent Virginia owned and operated business. Established here in our city in 2008, it has become a business that is aware of what the local economy and customers need. Capital Ale House’s motto is to “Raise the Bar” with extensive employee training and continuous coaching so standards and expectations are always met. Unfortunately, on June 27, the roof collapsed, pouring 2,000 gallons of rain and debris throughout the restaurant, without injury to any employee or customer. The owners and staff rallied, with support from the city and neighboring businesses, partnering with Main Street, and reopened within several months.”
