VDOT traffic alerts for the Fredericksburg region May 15 – May 21, 2016.

City of Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Stafford County
Interstate 95
Monday, 9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will repair the deck of the I-95 northbound bridge over Route 17 located at Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) in Stafford County. Single or double lane closures will be in place on I-95 northbound during the following hours:
• 9:30 p.m. Single lane closure
• 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Double lane closure

Route 1
Be alert for a temporary traffic pattern on Route 1 southbound at the site of the new Aquia Hilton. The through lanes on Route 1 southbound from just south of Port Aquia Drive to the southernmost intersection of Route 1 and Coachman Drive (at the 7-Eleven) will be shifted to the left. The continuous center lane for left turns in this area will be closed to accommodate the traffic shift. This work is related to construction of the Aquia Hilton.

Route 17
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Crews continue working to widen Route 17 to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway. Travel lanes will remain open, but motorists may encounter slight traffic shifts in the work zone.

Route 17 Business
Wednesday − Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Route 17 Business will be reduced to one lane northbound and southbound at the intersection with Melchers Drive and Washington Street. Crews will permanently close the crossover to traffic at 9 a.m. Wednesday, and proceed to install a raised concrete median.

Route 608 (Brooke Road)
Thursday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Route 608 (Brooke Road) will be reduced to one lane between Route 628 (Eskimo Hill Road) and Route 605 (New Hope Church Road) for pavement patching.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Sunday, midnight − 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. – midnight. Monday – Saturday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed intermittently on Route 610 eastbound or Route 610 westbound at Onville Road. Crews are placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Monday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Route 610 will be reduced to one lane between Long Wood Drive (Windsor Forest subdivision) and 1,000 feet west of Shiloh Baptist Church for milling and paving.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 at Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)
Sunday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Crews will be placing pavement markings at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane
closures in the work zone. Weather permitting, construction on this intersection improvement project is anticipated to be completed this week.

Harrison Road
Monday − Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Intermittent flagging and single lane closures may be required for brief periods for tree removal along Route 620 (Harrison Road). Tree removal is in connection with Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection improvement project.

Sheraton Hills
Monday − Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Subdivision paving will be underway. Motorists can expect mobile single lane closures throughout the neighborhood.

Smoketree
Monday − Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Subdivision paving will be underway. Motorists can expect mobile single lane closures throughout the neighborhood.

Caroline County
Route 1
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closures on Route 1 northbound between Hanover County line and just south of Route 207 for milling and paving.

Route 17
Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be painting lane markings on Route 17 in the vicinity of the Town of Port Royal. Mobile lane closures may exist.

Route 301
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Route 301 will be reduced to a single lane between the Hanover County line and the Mattaponi River bridge. Crews will be performing trench widening on road shoulders.

King George County
Route 607 (Port Conway Road)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Paving and milling will be underway between Route 301 and Route 660 (Canning Way). Route 607 (Port Conway Road) will be reduced to one lane in this mobile work zone.

Under Construction
Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard. The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is finishing this week, weather permitting, to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2018.

Caroline County
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)
Nelson Hill Road is closed to traffic at the bridge over the Mattaponi River for a bridge rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted detour route. Estimated completion is mid-September 2016.

Caroline County/King George County
Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be installed in the future. Project completion is October 2017.

Westmoreland County
Route 205 at Mattox Creek
Route 205 is reduced to one lane on the Mattox Creek bridge for a bridge replacement project. Temporary traffic signals are installed at each end of the bridge. Motorists may experience minor travel delays due to one-way traffic. This project will be completed by July 2016.

Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Longfield Road. This project will be completed by July 2016.
