No Guinness World Record for UMW

The volunteers were trained, Guinness World Records Adjudicator Michael Empric had arrived from New York, and the participants were gathered. In the end, there were not enough.

The University of Mary Washington had planned to honor retiring President Richard Hurley with a Guinness World Record for high fives. Hurley is known as the “high-fiving president,” since he frequently high-fives students. He’s retiring July 1.

In all, 392 students, staff, faculty and community members participated Wednesday afternoon, April 13, 2016. But 472 more high-fivers were needed.
