UMW’s Head Athletic Trainer Receives 2016 Athletic Training Service Award
Ian Rogol, Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Mary Washington, has been named a recipient of the 2016 Athletic Training Service Award from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). This award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession as a volunteer at the local and state levels. Recipients must have a minimum of 20 years of service to NATA to be considered. Rogol has served UMW since 2010. Prior to 2010, he worked as Head Athletic Trainer at Charlottesville and Louisa Country High Schools.
Chamber Hosts Transportation Forum
Congressman Rob Wittman, Commonwealth Transportation Board Member (CTB) Hap Connors, and Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) Representative Paul Agnello participated on a panel discussion at the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce forum “Our Transportation Crisis.” “Common themes from [the] conversation included the fact that there is not enough capacity for the amount of traffic on our roads, and that there is trouble in finding the dollars to allocate towards the much needed projects that would increase capacity and decrease congestion,” said Kasey Nabal, the chamber’s Military & Government Affairs manager. “One such unfunded project is the I-95 Northbound river crossing, of which funding this project is a chamber priority.”
Country Cookin Plank Road Closes
The Country Cookin restaurant located at 3400 Plank Rd. in Fredericksburg has closed. The company’s website and the sign outside the restaurant direct customers to visit the Eagle Village location at 1201 Jefferson Davis Hwy.
Renovations Underway at Central Park Wawa
Wawa at 1140 Carl D. Silver Pkwy. is closed through March 25, 2016, for renovation. This follows the recently reopened renovated locations at Gateway Village Shopping Center (2390 Plank Rd.) and at 4527 Plank Rd. in Spotsylvania County. Wawa is renovating 50 of its locations throughout 2015. The chain of more than 645 convenience retail stores — more than 365 offering gasoline — are located in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Central Florida. “Wawa” is a Native American word for the Canada Goose that was found in the Delaware Valley over 100 years ago. “Our original Dairy farm was built on land located in a rural section of Pennsylvania called Wawa,” the company said on its website. “That’s why we use the goose on Wawa’s corporate logo.”
