Chamber’s Regional Transportation Action Committee Meets with Kaine, Warner and Wittman

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer Announces Stafford County Land Sale
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer announced the sale of approximately 132 acres situated along 400 Marlborough Point Road in Stafford County. David C. Frederick purchased the land from 400 Marlborough Point, LLC for $2.8 million as an investment, Paula English, Thalhimer communications director said. Mike Degen of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer handled the sale negotiations on behalf of the seller.
Chili’s Southpoint Property Sold
MAGGA Investments, LLC purchased the Chili’s restaurant at 10010 Southpoint Pkwy. for $2.35 million as an investment. It was purchased from Battlefield Industrial Park, LLC, owned by local real estate investor Rich McDaniel. Chili’s has a long-term lease on the property, and will continue to do business there.
Workforce NOW Workshop: Whose time is it Anyway?

The Washington House Challenge
The George Washington Foundation announced The Washington House Challenge. Donations of $5,000 or more received by March 1, 2016, will be matched dollar for dollar. The money will be used for Kenmore Plantation and Ferry Farm, including construction of the interpretive replica of the Washington house. UMW Libraries Receives Grant
University of Mary Washington Libraries, in partnership with the Center for Historic Preservation and UMW Facilities Services, has been awarded a $6,250 grant by the community Duff McDuff Green Jr. Fund. The grant will help fund the preservation and digitization of the university’s architectural blueprints and drawings — particularly those related to noted Virginia architect Charles M. Robinson, whose architectural designs grace campuses and other buildings throughout the commonwealth of Virginia.
Friends of Wilderness Battlefield Seeks Ellwood Manor Volunteers
Friends of Wilderness Battlefield (FoWB) is seeking new volunteers to staff positions at Ellwood Manor for the 2016 Season. Ellwood Manor is the only Civil War-era structure remaining on the Wilderness Battlefield. Volunteers may choose to become a Historic House Guide, providing guided tours in the house, or a member of the Ground Force at Ellwood, maintaining the beautiful grounds surrounding the manor. The first training session will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. UMW to Attempt Guinness World Record
In honor of the retirement of President Richard V. Hurley in June 2016, the University of Mary Washington will attempt to break a Guinness world record. Hurley is known as “the high-fiving president.” The goal is to achieve the highest number of people performing simultaneous jumping high-fives. The event will take place at 4 p.m. April 13, 2016, in the William M. Anderson Center on the Fredericksburg campus. Doors open at 2 p.m. Registration, which is free but required, will begin on Monday, March 7. Due to building capacity, UMW will accept 3,000 registrants, and the first 2,500 participants to arrive at the event will be included in the official attempt.
