Freezing temperatures and light snow overnight could create slick, hazardous road conditions across the Fredericksburg region early Friday morning, February 5, 2016.
Rain and snow are likely between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., then snow likely between 1 and 7 a.m., the National Weather Service predicts. “New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.”
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are reporting at midnight in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck, and Middle Peninsula. Trucks loaded with sand and salt will be ready for quick deployment to treat Interstate 95 and primary roads as needed.
“Travelers are advised to monitor weather forecasts and check road conditions on 511Virginia before starting a trip tomorrow morning,” VDOT said.
VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.
